    Sidney Lumet

     

    Sidney Arthur Lumet was born on June 25, 1924. He was an American producer, director and screenwriter who contributed to the film industry with over 50 films. He received nominations for Best Director in Academy Awards for his films Network, Dog Day, 12 Angry Men and The Verdict. He did not end up winning any Academy Award but did receive the Academy Honorary Award. He has also received nominations for 14 of his films in the Oscars.

    He made more than one movie every year since his directorial debut in 1957. He died on April 9, 2011 the cause of death being a lymphoma. He had been married four times and he was married to Mary Gimbel when he passed away. He has two children- Amy and Jenny. He also received an Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement. He voluntarily retired from his career in 2007 with his last movie being ‘Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead’.
